Oblivion’s Kiss

What is love

i’m sure i do not know

outside of what i have witnessed over the years

from her

as for me

and my temple

it is a hollow place

just nigh of complete darkness

but for the shafts of light that shine down

from the gods

for her prayers

through dusty panes

spilling down fragile cables of gossamer

i do not have the heart to break

for the rarity of beauty

sometimes smiling with dew

she saw me once

when I ventured out

and she glimpsed

the shape of my heart

and has guarded it ever since…

even braving into

the mysterious halls

gilded with portraits of

melancholy and forgotten laughter

thank the gods

for their mercy

for  water

rather than wine and gall

a reprieve

from solitude’s faithful embrace

for the warm and tender

arms of love

when she has rightfully left

her rays remain

and the sting of

oblivion’s kiss

a burden i can bear

to eternity’s horizon
